Disparities in Cancer Care
Wednesday, April 17, 2013 from 12:15-1:30 p.m.
Presented by Christopher Lathan, MD, MS, MPH, Director of the Cancer Care Equity Program at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Dana-Farber Cancer Care at Whittier Street Health Center.

• How disparities in our healthcare system affect cancer mortality
• Cancer disparities in the greater Roxbury community
• What the Cancer Care Equity Program (CCEP) at Whittier aims to accomplish

Dr. Lathan’s primary research interests are centered on racial/ethnic disparities in cancer care. His focus is on increasing access to high quality cancer care developed in part through a high level of community engagement.

What's New in Cancer Genetic Testing Today
Wednesday, April 24, 2013 from 12:15-1:30 p.m.
Presented by Huma Q. Rana, MD, a Clinical Geneticist at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. 

• Overview of cancer genetics
• Testing for cancer genes – breast, ovarian, colon cancer
• Who would benefit from genetic testing/counseling
• Insurance coverage for tests

2013 Roast for Andrew Dreyfus, President and Chief Executive Officer for Blue Cross Blue Shield Massachusetts- On Wednesday, April 3, 2013, Whittier held it's Roast of Andrew Dreyfus, President and CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of MA at the Copley Fairmont. Over 500 attendees celebrated and paid tribute to Andrew while having a little bit of fun. The generous sponsorships will go towards supporting Whittier Street Health Center’s essential programs and services including the Men’s Health Program, Pediatric Healthy Weight Clinic, DecisionARTS, Diabetes Center of Excellence and the Asthma Clinic.

2012 Gospel Concert- On Saturday, November 17th 2012 at the Berklee Performance Center Whittier hosted its 10th Annual Saving the Health of the Community International Gospel Concert! Once again Dr. Bobby Jones of BET was our host and this year we honored Colette Phillips of Colette Phillips Communications and Pastor William Dickerson.

The 2012 Men's Health Summitt- On Saturday, June 30th 2012 Whittier Street Health Center hosted our annual Men's Health Summit providing free health screenings, health education, and and an awards presentation to our community Health Champions. Keynote speaker New England Patriot Hall of Famer Andre Tippett joined us in our mission to Take Charge: Building Healthier Bodies, Minds, and Spirits. Click here to see the pictures from the event.

Women for Whittier Summer Tea- On June 19 Women for Whittier held its annual summer tea featuring a spoken word performance from Robbie McCauley.

Women for Whittier Fall Tea, Four Seasons Hotel, Boston, Tuesday, December 13th 2011. Whittier's Women for Whittier group meets twice a year to address health disparities for children and families in Boston.

Whittier Street Health Center is proud to offer free health screenings to our community. Screenings include breast cancer, eye care, prostate health and many more.
